[X] Uneducated Crazies.

So, the Current World Issues class I'm taking. Sounds fun, right? Maybe without the crazies that seem to be populating it! As a one semester class, clearly it is a slacker senior class. And I can deal. Because I am, clearly, a slacking senior. And yet... some people in that class make me so angry. Just...worse than the usual crazies that make me laugh, these people actually make me angry.

A Profile:

The Crazy Drinking Girl: Well, this girl is one of the major players on the drinking scene here in the high school arena. Which is fine, you know, because I don't drink and so I don't have to be her friend. But she also talks in class in a...less than erudite manner.
Sample conversation: "I think, like, that teenagers these days, aren't as connected, you know, because of, like, technology, or something, and, like, texting."
ACK! Sorry if I come off as overly annoyed, but really?! Cut out half the words and you can go back to sleeping and illicitly texting in half the time!! Do it!

The Crazy Conservative: Ah, the creeper that is living in the fifties. Not the cool clothing fifties, that I would be okay with, but the power-suit-superiority-of-men-superiority-of-ME kind of fifties. Great. Sexism, just what I like. I can just imagine our abortion discussion. (Little politics here: I believe guys have no right to choose what we do. Come on, if you've been raped, you should have a legal right to get an abortion.) He also wears suits to school. Every day. But not in the hot GQ kind of way. The creepy fifties ill-fitting suit way. GAH! Fashion faux-pas all over the place!!!!! GAH!

Ah, crazies.

[♥] Music

Ah, the iPod. Redefined the whole generation. For the better, clearly! I can't live without my 30G iPod, listening to it in the car, on the run, at boring places, at home, etc, etc. Some of my current favorite music is:

  • Shake It by Metro Station. Yes, I know, how mainstream, but I still love it!
  • Curse of Curves by Cute is What We Aim For. Oh, so fantastic and funny
  • Josh Rouse. Pop-folk-ballads! Need I say more?
  • Cobra Starship! S-C-A-N-D to the A to the L-O-U-S! So silly. (Check it: a parody)
  • Wir Sind Helden. Deutsch! A group I learnt about at camp! (Check it: Nur ein Wort)
  • Ruf' doch mal an by Wise Guys. Yet more German music...
  • Flogging Molly. I love the whole album "Float"
  • Dangerous by Kardinal Offishall feat. Akon. So catchy.. with the clever lyrics.
Yeah, I have some disparate tastes! Basically, I like music that is funny, or has a good dance beat, is in German (although I may not understand all the lyrics...), or tells a story!

[<3] Buying vintage and making your own!

Ah.. vintage clothing sales! So exciting!!! I went to one yesterday. My strategy is a little different from most people, as I may peruse the clothes, but mostly go right to the accessories and outerwear section. And I scored some cool hats! I love hats...but that's another post...
But anyway, this is what I came out with. A really cool bright blue pillbox and a mink turban! A mink turban! How cool is that?! Of course, I know some people don't like fur, but my big beef with it is it is usually so distasteful. And the conditions the poor mink are forced into, of course, but these particular mink in my hat haven't had a chance for the last thirty-plus years. (Ideally, we should just keep passing around all the vintage fur and not create any new... its more stylish from forty years ago, anyway!)

But what is cool about the design is that it is actually a crochet/knit cap with long thin strips of mink attached. It makes it a lot more fluid. Basically... really really cool.

I'm definitely wearing the mink to school in the winter to stave off the chill, although I know I'll be judged by some less fashion forward souls. But they are just going to have to deal... because I am fabulous!

[X] Waiting in Line

I am ridiculously bad at waiting in line. I just get so BORED. I bet it's a common issue, but still, I hate it. And since I'm going to be a fount of positivity, let's brainstorm some things to do while I wait...

  • Meditate. This would be a good exercise for me, because I am overly hyper. Although I sense difficulties if in a loud public place...
  • Read a book. This is what I utilize most often, but alas, the clucth bag is NOT conducive to the books I must read for classes
  • Flashcards!!!! This is something I absolutely NEED to start doing! I'm trying to become fluent in German faster than school pace, because I love it! I'm hereby resolving to carry Deutsch flashcards around with me (they fit in my clutch!) and learn, learn, learn.

[♥] Fall

I love Autumn! It is hands down my favorite season for many many reasons, not the least of which is my birthday is in September!
Autumn signifies the beginning of school, which I actually look forward to, because it will be my senior year and I get bored of summer and love reconnecting with all the people I didn't see. Also, to reiterate, my birthday! I never really do anything exciting on my birthday, which is a bit of a shame, but hopefully I'll get some money to go shopping!
Shopping.. that brings me to me next love of Autumn. Fall fashions. Best season of the year! The fabrics, the layering, the ability to wear fabulous coats on top of everything, and tights, and hats, and gloves! Really, the list goes on and on.

Clearly, this gives me a good excuse to write down all the fantastic things I want to buy this season:

  • Cardigans, especially a long cardigan. I only own two, and I have realized how much I absolutely adore layering cardigans over simple shirts. It's a no fail look for me, kind of the way a tank and blazer combo is.
  • A pair of knee-high boots. Black, round toe, and they must, must, MUST be high enough! I never buy boots because they are so expensive and they never come far enough up my leg. To me, it feels as though the whole upper part of my calf is unattractively exposed, and the boots always cut off on the widest part. Not attractive. I'd also like them to be slightly loose at the top, so I can wear fun over the knee socks. I know, I'm ridiculously picky!
  • I need, need, need a trench coat! Preferably two, actually, one black and one tan. But again, something I am ridiculously picky about and never find. Perhaps this year
  • Short skirts. Not miniskirts, short skirts. Miniskirts are always too short on me and I feel uncomfortable sitting down, as I am one one to showcha my chocha, as Winona would say. They need to me only a few inches above the knee, short enough to showcase the fun tights I am desirous to wear
  • Colorful shoes! I need (want, desire, LUST AFTER) so many shoes! But I have given myself an ultimatum. If it comes in black and a color, I must buy the color. I own too much black as it is, and want to start to try mixing colors more effectively.
  • A colorful winter coat. As all the magazines are touting pastel coats, I find myself lusting after one in a deep jewel tone, like cobalt, eggplant, or emerald. Pastel shades just don't look nice on me, and, put me in anything light colored, and you are asking for it to get completely destroyed. even if I don't eat anything, I attract filth. It's not a pleasant way to live.
And that's about it for my major fall fashion desires. And the main reason I love Autumn. Fall is my favorite season, weather and fashion-wise!

[♥] Soup

What food is more perfect than soup? It's like a beverage and a entree combined! Plus it is warm, which is just a fantastic plus. The only thing I don't like about soup is some people's incompetence in eating it.

As I learnt a long, long time ago, in that hilarious tome How Rude! the proper way to eat soup is:
  • Do not slurp
  • Sip, don't shove the whole spoon in your mouth unless there are tasty bits of meat/pasta/veggies n it
  • Dip the spoon in the soup away from you. That is, begin at the side closest to you and move further away, so as not to splash and/or make other forms of messes
  • If you tilt the bowl, tilt away from you, for the same reasons as above!
I absolutely adore soup! In fact, I just ate some for lunch...mmm, chicken noodle.

[♥] Good Hair Days

Hair is a huge part of what people look like! It is really surprising how much self-confidence can be gained by just having a fantastic hair day. My hair is curly, so good hair days need to be cajoled. Also, I just chopped about 8 inches off, which makes a big difference, for the better! These days I can just wash, scrunch, and go.

Although it is not the most wind friendly hairstyle, it makes me feel original and chic. And that is why good hair days make me happy!

this is me being silly in CT, but having a GHD!
